Free Bereavement Support Group Offers a Compassionate Space for Those Experiencing Loss at the Salisbury Council on Aging
Grief is deeply personal. It can follow the loss of a spouse, parent, sibling, child, friend, caregiver, or another important person in our lives—and there is no single timeline or “right” way to experience it.
For those navigating a loss, connecting with others who understand can provide comfort, encouragement, and a reminder that no one needs to grieve alone.
Noella Kloppenburg, LCSW, a retired member of the Adult Family Care of the North Shore team, has established a free, monthly, in-person Bereavement Support Group at the Salisbury Council on Aging to provide that connection and support.
A Safe Place to Share and Connect
Bereavement support groups provide a compassionate environment where people who have experienced the loss of a loved one can come together.
Participants have an opportunity to share their feelings and experiences with others who understand some of the challenges that accompany grief. The group also provides encouragement and practical strategies for coping with the emotional changes that can follow a loss.
Importantly, grief doesn't have an expiration date. Whether a loss happened recently or years ago, people may find themselves needing additional support at different points in their journey.
Meet Noella Kloppenburg, LCSW
Many in the Adult Family Care of the North Shore community will recognize Noella from her years with our organization.
Noella brings a lifetime of experience to the group, including a degree in social work and a Master's Degree in Pastoral Counseling. She says the tools and perspectives she gained through both disciplines help her support people as they navigate their own individual grief journeys.
Although Noella has retired from AFCNS, we're delighted to see her continuing to use her experience and compassion to support people in our local community.
Bereavement Support Group: Free and Open to the Community
The Bereavement Support Group meets in person, typically on the second Tuesday of each month, at the Salisbury Council on Aging.
The group is free to attend, and Salisbury residency is not required.
